It’s Finally Sunny In Philadelphia

Fourth of July weekend. Jersey shore. Hamburgers, hotdogs, 36-hour dry-rubbed ribs, mashed potato, watermelon salad, and corn on the cob. I felt odd bringing out a pretentious wine. Enter Union Wine Company’s Underwood Pinot Noir CAN. I’ve been excited for this product for months and eagerly awaited my pre-order.

Can1

I was not let down. I felt like a kid at Christmas opening the box. An overwhelming joy of popping open the can, the wonderful sound every soda and beer fan enjoys. The scene in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (where I live). Finally I could enjoy what every craft beer fan does – a cool, hip canned alcoholic beverage, only better. 13.5% Oregon Pinot Noir in a 375ml half-bottle can. And the wine is good… REAL GOOD for $12 per bottle ($6 per can). Pour it into a glass or drink from the can.  I prefer the latter.

Can2

Bright, pale to medium ruby colour. Classic Oregon Pinot Noir nose – ripe red cherry, juicy cranberry with a nice balance of earth, ash and wet leaves. Medium + body with soft medium tannins that linger with medium (+) acidity. Aromas translate to the palate with the juicy cranberry, ripe red cherry, earth, wet leaves and slight ash. The wine has great texture, balance and lasts long on the finish.
